Hillview Mental Health Center Review
Situated in the east San Fernando Valley north of downtown Los Angeles, Hillview Mental Health Center is a treatment facility that specializes in the care of clients struggling with substance abuse and co-occurring mental health disorders. Founded in 1966, Hillview is funded by the Mental Health Services Act of California, and has treated more than 2,000 individuals a year through its “client-centered” program. Treatment and Staff
Hillview offers a plethora of outpatient programs to address a wide variety of mental health and substance use disorder needs for client in all age groups. The facility provides individualized services including medication treatment, individual and group therapy, psychoeducation classes like cultural and gender sensitivity and linguistics.
Outpatient clinical services for older adult clients are offered at the Hillview facility as well as off-site in senior centers or even in the client’s home. Programming for young adults teaches self-reliance for clients transitioning out of foster care and the juvenile system, by providing semi-independent housing and services. This program provides medication treatment and life skills coaching including educational and employment assistance. In addition to the range of programs, clients of all ages and needs are provided with wellness therapy including health and social skills coursework, nutritional classes and exercise programming.
The Hillview Mental Health Center team is large and multidisciplinary including psychologists, psychiatrists, LCSWs, Master’s-level therapists, peer counselors and a nursing team. For clients in need of dual diagnosis support, medication management is available.

In addition, temporary sober housing is available as well as peer counseling, and clients enjoy local educational and recreational activities.
Hillview offers a smoking cessation program as well as peer-supported groups including 12-step and domestic violence groups.
