Hillsides Family Resource Centers are part of a Southern California based non-profit. Based in Pasadena, Hillsides provides an array of treatment and support services through its main campus and in-home visits. Programming can include crisis intervention, group and individual therapy, medication management and community enrichment programs. Hillsides partners with a number of other agencies throughout Los Angeles to offer wraparound services for mental and physical health, substance abuse treatment and other wellness programs to provide comprehensive care for children and their families.
Treatment and Staff
Families and individuals who are struggling with mental health or addiction concerns are eligible for the services offered at Hillsides. Clients have an initial assessment at intake that can also include a psychiatric evaluation and diagnosis. Co-occurring disorder treatments provided in addition to adult and adolescent mental health services.
Programming can take place on the main Hillsides campus, but if there are transportation issues some treatment can also take place in the home or within a school environment if need be. The school based programs are geared towards kids who have experienced trauma, and are provided with crisis counseling. Adolescents who have experienced this program have gone on to have more successful school years and have thrived within social settings.
Treatment is evidence-based, offering CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI) and trauma-informed care treatment models. There are also some holistic and expressive therapies, like art and music, and recreational methods. Staff also encourages involvement within the 12-step community. Additional elements to these programs include a parenting class, anger management, child abuse prevention groups and relapse prevention and support.
The multidisciplinary team of Hillsides includes LCSWs, LMFTs, case managers, child psychologists, psychiatrists and CADCs.
Hillsides works with CalWorks, which provides additional mental health support in addition to offering employment opportunities and training. These programs are all available in Spanish and English.
Hillsides Family Resource Centers’ goal is to intervene and help families who need support before something extreme, like a child being removed from their homes, and offer recovery and mental health programming with the intent to preserve families and help them feel secure within their communities. Hillsides employs a “whatever it takes” angle in all their programs, which in turn offers their clients a solid foundation for a successful future.
