Hillside Mission Review

Based out of Costa Mesa, California, Hillside Mission is an intimate, inpatient detox facility that provides individualized and comprehensive detox plans with flexible lengths of stay. Though programs also include holistic methods and therapy, one of its major emphases is on pharmacogenetic testing for all its clients, namely medical tests and assessments to fit each medical protocol to the individual’s specific genes and biological pathways.

Accommodations and Food

The facility itself is an upscale, residential-style home with six beds available, all in private rooms. Each of the bedrooms comes with a full bed, satellite TV, a spacious closet, air conditioning and WiFi Internet access for those who want to bring their laptop and continue working throughout detox. As a luxury facility, the home is gated and also has guards and security cameras for extra discretion and anonymity. In addition to the bedrooms, the home also has comfortable common areas as well as an outdoor pool and spa area. Throughout their stay, all residents are served three healthy and delicious meals a day by on-staff chefs.

Treatment and Staff

Before beginning a program, all participants go through an intake and assessment process, which includes pharmacogenetic testing, as mentioned above. With all that information, staff members and consulting medical staff can help clients develop their individualized care plans. While treatment includes medication management and Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) as necessary, the overall approach is more wide-ranging.

Unlike some detox facilities, the organization also offers individual therapy to help orient participants to the recovery process along with life coaching and nutritional counseling. As the programs are designed to treat participants emotionally, mentally and physically, yoga and rotating fitness classes are also available. While 12-step participation is not be strictly required, participants can talk to the staff about attending meetings or beginning a further recovery program once they’re stabilized. As the program is primarily focused on treating withdrawal symptoms and orienting clients to further treatment, thorough dual diagnosis support is not available.

The staff at Hillside Mission consists of consulting doctors and nurses, nutritionists, fitness instructors, life coaches, case managers and additional Master’s-level counselors.

Extras

Though all programs are designed to be as efficient and effective as possible, lengths of stay may vary by participant. Those who complete a primary care plan can work with staff members to develop discharge and aftercare plans, sometimes with follow-up and referrals to nearby inpatient and outpatient treatment programs. Hillside Mission also offers its own alumni support program to help clients begin forming their own sober communities. Finally, the organization is an out-of-network provider and accepts most major insurances.

In Summary

Overall, Hillside Mission provides comprehensive detox services designed to do more than simply stabilize clients’ withdrawal symptoms. In addition to specialized medical testing and medication management, participants also attend therapy, coaching sessions and fitness classes—all in a luxury facility. Though the cost of treatment may vary by insurance and program specifics, Hillside Mission remains a strong resource worth considering for those in early recovery.
