Hilljack House Review
Located in St. Louis, Missouri, Hilljack House is a non-profit organization that provides upscale sober living for men and women in the beginning stages of recovery from alcohol and substance use disorders. Hilljack House was founded in 1997 by a group of newly sober individuals looking for a safe haven far removed from the triggers of their old lives. Accommodations and Amenities
Hilljack House is actually situated in four houses with a total capacity of 29. The homes are located in quiet, residential neighborhoods, and boast spacious floor plans, common areas, comfortable bedrooms and industrial kitchens. Upon moving in, residents work with the house manager to create a plan of action that includes setting achievable goals. The facility also offers a range of life skills programs that helps residents to hit the ground running. These include employment, educational and financial services like a matching savings program. Hilljack regularly hosts fun sober events that friends and family are welcome to attend.
Rules and Regulations
Hilljack believes that a strong community of peers is an integral component to the success of a sustainable, long-term recovery. As such, the facility provides a safe, supportive and fun atmosphere for the sober residents. While there is a house manager, for the most part individuals police themselves.
In order to be accepted into the house, residents must have 30 days of sobriety and a willingness to commit to the rules of the program. Every resident is responsible for chores, and are required to participate in weekly house meetings to discuss not only housekeeping but also the day-to-day challenges facing everyone. In addition, clients undergo an immersion into the 12-step recovery model. Regularly working with a sponsor and participating in meetings is mandatory to remain in the house.
