Victorville CaliforniaThe Basics

The High Desert Center in Victorville, California provides outpatient treatment for children, adolescents and families struggling with mental health and substance abuse disorders. Treatment is also available to pregnant women or women with children at the organization’s facility. In general, services include educational seminars and group therapy led by certified counselors.

Treatment and Staff

Treatment begins with a comprehensive assessment leading into an individualized treatment plan. There are no detox or medication management services available on-site but referrals can be made upon request.

Adults seeking outpatient support are offered group sessions once a week over the course of three months. Groups are held Mondays through Thursdays for an hour and a half at a time. All groups are co-ed and are facilitated by CSACs, who use an educational approach to discuss topics like the disease of addiction, relapse prevention, mental health, dual diagnosis support and coping skills.

Adolescents ages 11 through 18 have access to similar services with groups held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4 to 5:30 pm. The youth groups are led by substance abuse counselors who specialize in adolescent issues like gang avoidance, life skills, self-esteem, unhealthy friendships, peer pressure and the negative long-term effects of substance abuse. It is essential for parents to get involved in their teens’ treatment by scheduling family therapy sessions as needed.

Pregnant women and women with children under the age of six have access to a specialized six-month program as well. This incorporates individual therapy sessions, substance abuse education and classes on anger management and parenting. These sessions are held Mondays through Thursdays for an hour and a half at a time. Each woman is placed in two groups a week, with individual therapy available on an as-needed basis. Groups address child safety, child nutrition, child development, destructive emotions and addiction.

Staff members at High Desert Center include CSACs, CADCs, family therapists and CSWs trained in evidence-based modalities like CBT and DBT.

Extras

Aside from substance abuse programs, High Desert Center also offers anger management and parenting programs. Both cater to adults ages 18 and over and include participation in hour-long group sessions once a week. Family therapy is also available for those in need.

All services are certified by the San Bernardino County Office of Alcohol and Drug Programs and comply with court-ordered requirements for drug and alcohol charges. Drug testing services are also available on-site.

In Summary

Overall, High Desert Center offers basic outpatient care to many different types of clients. Treatment is evidence-based and includes both group and individual therapy, with additional family support available as well. In all, High Desert Center could be a good option for those looking to fulfill court requirement or find added support in early recovery.
