High Country Behavioral HealthHigh Country Behavioral Health Review

High Country Behavioral Health was founded in 2004 in Afton, Wyoming, a small town just on the edge of Idaho. Today, High Country operates offices in Afton, Kemmerer, Evanston and Pinedale, Wyoming and serves over 1,500 clients. Each of these locations offer co-ed outpatient treatment to clients in the Lincoln, Sublette and Unita counties.

Treatment and Staff

The intake process at High Country begins with an initial phone call followed by a meeting with a counselor to help determine the client’s potential level of care. High Country operates on a sliding scale to accommodate clients of all economic backgrounds. Clients who do not have a source of income are referred to the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services to assist with finding a job. Clients who are unstable are going through withdrawal, are referred to outside residential or detox treatment centers.

High Country’s Intensive outpatient Program (IOP) and outpatient programs are the same at all four of their locations. The program’s length and intensity is based on the needs of the client. Group meetings are offered Monday through Friday from 5:15pm to 7:15pm. Clients in the IOP meet three to five days a week for group therapy, while clients in the outpatient program meet for one to two groups per week. The group sizes are generally small and range from three to 15 clients per group. High Country offers a variety of group types including DBT, Moral Recognition Therapy (MRT) groups and mindful way workbooks. Individual meetings are also available based on the needs of the clients.

Although High Country is not 12-step oriented, clients are encouraged to attend outside AA and NA meetings while in the program.

High Country is dual diagnosis and offers individual sessions with a mental health counselor for clients with potential co-occurring disorders.

All of the staff members at High Country are licensed clinicians and include LCSWs and provisional professional counselors.

Extras

High Country offers individual meetings with the counselor, client and their family members. However, these meetings are only offered based on the consent of the client. These meetings aim to address family issues that lead to the client’s substance abuse and aim to establish healthy communication practices in the family. High Country also offers couples counseling.

The organization does not have an official aftercare program, but clients are allowed to step down gradually from the program. When leaving High Country, most clients initially step down to attending group meetings once a week and then to once every other week.

High Country also offers drug court treatment as well as both adult and adolescent DUI classes.

In Summary

High Country provides affordable and flexible outpatient treatment programs to adult men and women in the southeastern Wyoming area. The sliding scale allows any client who is willing the ability to receive treatment at High Country. The extensive amount of group meetings allows clients and counselors to design a treatment program that fits each client’s individual schedule and needs. Also, flexible length of stay allows clients to step down from treatment at their own pace.
