Maplegrove Center Review
Founded in 1977, Henry Ford Health System serves the Detroit metro area. Henry Ford’s Maplegrove Center offers outpatient detox, residential and day treatment services, as well as an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), basic outpatient. Using a 12-step approach, Maplegrove has been licensed by the State of Michigan as an inpatient, outpatient and preventive care provider for substance abuse since 1981.
Accommodations and Food
There are no private rooms at Maplegrove. Clients bunk in gender-specific hospital-style rooms for a total maximum of 40 inpatient clients. Three meals and a snack a day are provided. The food is prepared in the hospital cafeteria and dietary restriction can usually be accommodated. The Henry Ford gift shop and vending machines are also accessible for more snacks.
Treatment and Staff
Detox at Maplegrove is medically managed and typically lasts three to five days. Maximum length of stay is 30 days. During residential treatment clients stay at Maplegrove 24/7, while undergoing medical and psychiatric care and counseling. The program is reserved for those who have not succeeded in curbing addiction through outpatient treatment. A psychiatrist provides dual diagnosis support for clients with depression, anxiety and other mood-related issues. CBT-based Group and individual therapy happen daily and family sessions are offered as necessary. Additionally, on-site AA/NA meetings are an integral part of treatment. After the inpatient program is completed, clients have the option to step down to outpatient.
Maplegrove day treatment is for adults who have a stable enough home environment to not need overnight care but can commit to intensive daily treatment. It lasts 10 to 14 days, seven days a week, from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm. Further treatment is determined by an evaluation and whether client’s insurance covers additional care. If approved, clients may attend the IOP for counseling three times a week, on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 9 pm. Basic outpatient only requires one day’s attendance per week. It is recommended that, as they step down the frequency of treatment, clients continue attending outside AA/NA meetings.
Maplegrove is staffed by LCSWs, CADCs, a psychiatrist on staff and number of nurses.
Extras
At Maplegrove, further treatment options offered include acupuncture, yoga, meditation and an urge-management program. The family program invites partners, parents and other loved ones to participate in treatment.
