Galloway New JerseyHelping Hand Behavioral Health Outpatient Review

Located in Galloway, New Jersey, a small suburb slightly north of Atlantic City, Helping Hand Behavioral Health is a community-oriented outpatient facility which provides flexible and customizable treatment plans. In addition to care purely for addiction issues, those with co-occurring disorders can also get treatment through the facility.

Treatment and Staff

Before treatment begins, clients go through an initial assessment to determine their needs. While there aren’t specific guidelines for frequency or duration of treatment, there are two separate tracks for basic addiction issues and co-occurring disorders, both of which include individual and group therapy.

The topics covered in group sessions vary—while some are focused on educating clients on the disease of addiction, those in the dual diagnosis support track also receive psychiatric care and medication management services as necessary. Though 12-step meetings are not strictly a part of Helping Hands’ program, some basic AA/NA topics are incorporated into treatment and referrals to off-site meetings are available upon request. Other group topics include changing criminal thinking, relapse prevention, psychoeducation, anger management, life skills and money management.

The staff at Helping Hand Behavioral Health consists of LCADCs, Licensed Addiction Counselors (LACs), LPCs, RNs and additional Master’s-level counselors. All treatment methods are rooted in evidence-based practices including CBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI).

Extras

Aside from the more structured programs mentioned above, Helping Hands Behavioral Health also provides drug and alcohol evaluations and has an outreach team available to answer questions, explain their programs and offer other guidance. Thorough case management services are also available and the facility works closely with outside doctors, therapists, case managers and social workers to arrange further care as needed. Finally, for those in need of more intensive rehabilitation services, the organization also has two residential facilities called Wedgewood and Oceanview which offer treatment for addiction.

In Summary

In all, Helping Hand Behavioral Health provides a basic treatment plan to attack addiction with ample support for those with complicated psychiatric issues. Each client’s plan is thoroughly customizable and all therapy is conducted by a team of well-credentialed professionals. While the treatment provided is relatively limited to the essentials of traditional therapy, Helping Hand Behavioral Health is still a strong resource for those in the area.
