Located in Michigan in Wayne County, Hegira Programs Inc. (HPI) has been one of the largest behavioral health facilities in the region since 1971. In addition to its residential program, HPI offers extensive outpatient, Intensive Outpatient (IOP), and Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP) as well as primary care for adolescents and adults who are seeking treatment for substance abuse and co-occurring conditions.
Treatment and Staff
The individualized outpatient programs are designed to be flexible with client’s schedules to make maintaining professional, school and home lives possible. IOP treatment is offered in two locations and length of treatment lasts between four and five weeks. Sessions include both group and individual therapy. A morning schedule from 8:30 am to 11:30 am four days a week, and the evening is from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm, also meeting four times a week. The PHP, which is referred to as the day program, is five days a week for six hours at a time. This option is the most intensive of the outpatient treatments, and is ideal for those who require managed care while still returning home at the end of the day. Lastly, the outpatient treatment requires fewer hours and meets between one and two days a week for about an hour at a time. This is regarded as an ideal step-down program for those who have completed more intensive treatments and are still looking for ongoing care that is more flexible.
Treatment at HPI employs 12-step and evidence-based therapy models, and are mostly in a group therapy setting, which tend to be on the smaller side—between six and eight clients. Psycho-education, relapse prevention and coping skills are addressed during group sessions. Clients with co-occurring conditions have the option of medication management with an on-site psychiatrist overseeing that process.
HPI staff in the outpatient treatment programs is a mix of psychiatrists, psychologists, caseworkers, CSWs, and professional counselors, all experienced and trained in the treatment of both addiction and dual diagnosis.
An aftercare plan in put in place and referenced throughout the course of treatment. Recommendations and referrals to outside AA and NA meetings are readily available, as well as a family program which is offered to partners and family members of clients during and after treatment.
Hegira Programs Inc. provides a lot of program options, and is always introducing new treatment methods truly embracing the individualized care they offer. By focusing on the client himself or herself and not just on the addiction, it sets up an environment of care so the client can fully integrate themselves into the programs and allow healing to begin.
