Healthy Recovery Homes Review
Healthy Recovery Homes is a Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania-based, men’s only, sober living program. The program is based on the 12-steps and requires a good deal of accountability. The house is for men who are 18 and older who have struggled with addiction in the past and enter into the facility with 30 days of sobriety under their belts. Healthy Recovery Homes is a supportive program that works to help improve clients self-esteem and give them the confidence to proceed in their recovery successfully.
Accommodations and Amenities
The facility is a single family home that can accommodate up to 12 clients in both shared and private rooms. The home has a fully equipped kitchen that is stocked with cookware and utensils, a dining room, and a living room with a television and cable. The bedrooms are furnished with twin beds, racks for personal items and closet space.
The game room has another TV, foosball table, air hockey table and game consoles. There is also a laundry room on-site, and a two car garage. There is also two parking spaces outside of the house.
The facility is located in a neighborhood that is close to several local businesses and stores, as well as public transportation.
Residents are responsible for buying their own food.
Rules and Regulations
Clients are required to attend 90 meetings in 90 days, and meetings have to be signed off by the house manager. After the initial 90 days, clients have to attend five meetings per week. Also, clients who have been there for 30 are allowed to attend midnight meetings, as long as approval is granted prior to the meeting. At the 30 day mark clients are also allowed to request overnight passes, and after a year they can ask for weekend passes.
Clients are required to have a job or be enrolled in school, and have a sponsor that they communicate with on a daily basis. There is a weekly house meeting that is mandatory for all clients.
Every week chores are assigned, and need to be completed in a timely manner. Clients are also responsible for cleaning the kitchen, washing their dishes and tidying the bathroom and personal spaces after use.
Staff of Healthy Recovery Homes work with outpatient treatment facilities in the community and are able to coordinate with outside programs for clients that need extended support. In any case, clients are responsible for going to individual or group therapy at least once a week and establishing a treatment plan.
Clients are encouraged to work with a family therapist and actively work on reconciliation.
Healthy Recovery Homes provides the environment needed for men who are new to recovery. The program establishes a foundation that helps clients maintain their sobriety and get a solid footing while preparing to transition to independent living.
