Headwaters Review
Located in West Palm Beach, Florida, HeadWaters at Origins is a specialized co-ed residential treatment program offered by Origins Behavioral Healthcare. It encompasses two tracks: one for people of high net worth and the second for licensed professionals for whom addiction is a threat to their livelihood; such as physicians, lawyers, pilots, therapists and dentists.
Accommodations and Food
HeadWaters clients live in their own section on the expansive Hanley Center. The small, 20-bed program accommodates men and women in gender-separated rooms. Each resident gets a private, elegantly appointed suite complete with daily housekeeping, as well as five-star cuisine and beach excursions. The comfort of this setting is designed to help clients rest, reflect and stay focused on the process of recovery. Meals are prepared on site by a chef who caters to dietary restrictions and individual tastes.
Treatment and Staff
Treatment consists of a structured 28-day 12-step-based program. Clients in need of medically-monitored detox complete this phase, which typically lasts three to five days, in a comfortable, highly-supervised environment before transitioning to their regular room.
All residents are required to attend daily on-site 12-step meetings, in addition to completing step work and writing assignments with a sponsor. Clients are supervised and required to meet specific goals, which typically included getting through as many of the 12 steps as possible during treatment. Residents attend group therapy daily and individual therapy weekly. Groups cover individual issues, psychoeducation and relapse prevention using the same modalities as other Origins treatment centers; namely CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI),and trauma informed care, when appropriate.
Medication management is available for clients with co-occurring disorders. LADCs facilitate groups, as well as supervise treatment plans and goals. Additionally, Master’s-level therapists and psychiatrists conduct individual sessions as well as supervise medical needs.
Extras
The lush, tropically-landscaped campus provides the medical and clinical resources that are customized to the needs of each client, along with recreational facilities such as a fully equipped gym, pool, jogging path and walking trail. Acupuncture, massage and other wellness and experiential therapies are available and may be incorporated into any individual treatment plan.
Upon completing the program, clients may be referred to outpatient services, in lieu of aftercare or transitional housing, that can assist them in maintaining their recovery. A strong local community of alumni exists, with newsletters and activities frequently organized.
