Hazel House Sober Living is located a half-hour outside of New York City. It’s a resource for men in the beginning of recovery from alcohol and substance use disorder. Hazel House not only provides comfortable, upscale accommodations but also a strong support system, employment assistance, sober coaches and an immersion into a 12-step program.
Accommodations and Amenities
Hazel House is nicely furnished with an open floor plan, industrial kitchen, laundry room and common areas for socializing. Residents sleep comfortably on a twin-sized bed equipped with a memory foam mattress.
The kitchen is fully stocked at all times and the home is equipped with free Wifi. There are nearby grocery and retail stores. The house has an alarm system that requires a key code entry. Located about an hour from the Jersey Shore, residents also have the opportunity to go on outings to the beach during warmer months.
Rules and Restrictions
Clients are kept busy during the day with a structured routine that includes 12-step groups, house meetings, meditation sessions and life skills training, which can include cooking and meal preparation classes. In addition, residents are assigned daily chores and are required to clean up after themselves.
In order to stay at the house, residents must have a sponsor and participate in several 12-step meetings a week. Hazel House enforces a strict code of conduct that forbids the use of any substance as well as poor behavior such as theft, violence and sexual acts. While individuals new to Hazel House must comply with a 9 pm curfew, all residents submit to random drug testing and room inspections for prohibited items like pornography and weapons. Clients are also not permitted electronics or expensive items like jewelry.
Residents are allowed to visit with guest in common areas and can smoke in designated outdoor areas. Clients with medications are required to hand them over to the house manager for disbursement.
