The Basics
Haven Chemical Health Systems is a substance abuse treatment facility founded in 2000 by Bob Haven. With extensive experience running chemical dependency programs throughout Minnesota as well as programs in California and New York, Haven now runs a state-wide network of substance abuse treatment facilities. The first Haven component was opened in Woodbury, then three outpatient programs have subsequently opened in Shakopee, Cloquet and Waconia. Residential treatment is available as well, with three homes available for both men and women. The Waconia location offers adult outpatient treatment as well as specialized tracks for relapse prevention and teen intervention.
Treatment and Staff
The Haven in Waconia offers outpatient substance abuse treatment for adults as well as intervention services for teens. All program tracks focus on a disease model approach and incorporate the 12-step framework. Prior to admission, all clients must arrange an appointment to be assessed. Since there is no detox available, clients may be referred out for services if they are not recommended to enroll. Length of treatment is dependent upon each individual’s progress.
All services are facilitated by LADCs. The adult program is an IOP with three different levels of intensity. At the beginning of treatment, clients attend services three times per week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 9 pm. As the client progresses towards their recovery goals, they will only attend twice per week. At the end of the program, only once per week is necessary until the client graduates. Clients attend both group and individual therapy when necessary.
The Teen Choice program is a non-confrontational program that works with adolescents and their families to recovery from substance abuse. Counselors utilize Motivational Interviewing (MI), Stages of Change Model, psycho-education sessions and assertiveness skills as well as 12-step support groups to help clients between the ages of 13 and 17. This six-week program focuses primarily on individual therapy. As an intervention program (as opposed to a primary care), clients attend therapy once per week. If further care is needed, the clients are assessed and referred out to a more intensive program.
Extras
Every other Thursday a Family Program group is facilitated at the Haven in Waconia. Clients and their families or spouses attend one large group together to discuss how to best support each other and grow towards recovery as a unit.
A relapse prevention program is also available for teens that have completed a primary program and are looking to remain in the process of treatment. Group, individual and family therapy is utilized. Counselors and families stay connected through schools, probation officers and other forms of support.
In Summary
The Haven in Waconia offers an IOP track for adults as well as a relapse prevention program and intervention program for adolescents. All services incorporate evidence based methods of treatment and 12-step principles. Haven accepts most insurance and works to make their services affordable for all.
