The Basics
With facilities throughout Los Angeles, Haven House is a multi-faceted, California-based organization offering residential and outpatient care for substance abuse, as well as sober living homes and treatment for eating disorders and dual diagnosis. The two sober living locations are in Santa Monica and Century City.
Accommodations and Amenities
The Century City location is an eight-unit block of fully furnished apartments, with one and two-bedroom quarters available. Though the program is co-ed, the apartments themselves are gender-specific. Each unit features a spacious living room with a flatscreen TV, cable and an electric fireplace. Kitchens are modern amenities and come with appliances. Bedrooms have small bedside dressers, larger armoires and plush queen-sized beds. All the bedrooms are private, even for clients who have a roommate. The apartments also come with their own balconies and are pet friendly. Geared to encourage independent living skills, residents prepare their own meals—though the cost of groceries is included with treatment.
Rules and Regulations
In order to be eligible to live in one of Haven House’s facilities, clients must have at least 90 days sober, submit to regular and random urinalysis tests and regularly attend of off-site 12-step meetings. Homes are assigned on-site house managers who handle emergencies, provide sober support and periodically check in with clients. Though clients must stay for a minimum of 30 days, there’s no limit on how long they can stay provided they follow the rules of the complex.
Extras
Haven House also offers comprehensive residential and outpatient treatment using evidence-based modalities like CBT, DBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI), as well as holistic methods like mindfulness training, yoga and meditation. Both programs offer dual-diagnosis support and individualized plans.
In Summary
Haven House Century City is a well-maintained facility with comfortable accommodations—all within walking distance of local AA meetings, movie theaters, restaurants and more. Each client’s stay is flexible and many of the support staff are sober alumni of the Haven House program themselves. As an added bonus, the organization also offers a number of more intensive treatment options for those in any stage of recovery. Though slightly more expensive than some competing sober livings, Haven House Century City is well worth considering for those the area.
