sober living st. paul minnesotaHart House Review

Based in St. Paul, Minnesota, Hart House is a Christian faith-based transitional living program for women in Ramsey County recovering from chemical dependancy. Founded in 2001, the program is a part of Missions, Inc., a local behavioral health organization that offers outpatient treatment and other sober living facilities in the state. The gender-specific environment provides a safe and supportive home base for women to regain independence and begin building their sober lives.

Accommodations and Amenities

Located in a residential neighborhood, the home can accommodate a total of 24 women, with residents sharing a bedroom with one other client. Rooms come equipped with basic amenities, including small dressers and shared closet space. The common areas feature couches and a television, on-site laundry and a full-service kitchen. While residents are responsible for making their own breakfast, the program provides lunch and dinner every day.

Rules and Regulations

All clients must be residents of Ramsey County to be eligible for Hart House. Once accepted, clients must stay busy seeking employment, working, pursuing further education or attending outpatient treatment. While many of the residents are transitioning from an inpatient program, some may still be attending aftercare. Both self-referred and court-ordered clients are welcome.

Residents are required to submit to regular and random drug tests as well as participate in seven recovery-related activities a week. These may take the form of 12-step meetings; however, clients opposed to AA/NA may engage in other spiritually enriching activitiessuch as attending church or volunteeringto fulfill this requirement.

Staff members are available to help residents with goal-setting, life and work skills and locating resources that support them as they work towards achieving their goals. Counseling and health care advocacy is also available.

Extras

As part of the larger Missions, Inc. network, clients in need of detox, outpatient or residential treatment can be referred to one of the organization’s other facilities. Additional services include “Home Free,” a 24/7 domestic violence hotline that offers for guidance or emergency services.

In Summary

In all, Hart House is a structured and supportive sober living home for women in early recovery. Its county and state funding allows the program to remain affordable and gives residents the option to stay for as long as two years. With an emphasis on female advocacy, peer support and building independence, the women who enter this program and do the work will likely find it a transformative experience.
