The Basics
With several locations based out of St. Louis, Missouri, Harris House is a multi-faceted behavioral health organization providing flexible programs for clients with addiction and co-occurring disorders. The facility was founded in 1961 and offers a full continuum of treatment options. In addition to its inpatient programs, Harris House also provides an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP).
Treatment and Staff
Before beginning a program, clients go through an initial intake and assessment process to help staff members develop their individualized treatment plans. Those in need of detox can do so on-site before continuing on to treatment. The more intensive track is PHP which meets up to five days a week for six hours a day. Still, the intensity of treatment may vary slightly depending on clients’ needs. IOP, on the other hand, is more flexible and meets from 6 to 9 pm on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. Though the specifics of each plan may differ, treatment includes individual and group therapy rooted in evidence-based practices including CBT and DBT. Groups cover a range of topics including relapse prevention, trigger identification, healthy boundaries, self-esteem, communication skills, psychoeducation and self-care.
Dual diagnosis support is also available. Clients are strongly encouraged to attend off-site 12-step meetings, though AA/NA recovery concepts are also worked into treatment.
The staff at Harris House consists of MDs, RNs, LPCs, LCSWs, MSWs, CADCs and additional Master’s-level counselors.
Extras
Family therapy is available as are some holistic methods including meditation and yoga classes. Those who complete a primary care program can continue on to Harris House’s transitional housing programs in addition to weekly aftercare groups.
