Hannah House Review

Located in the beachside town of South Padre Island, Texas, Hannah House by Origins is a specialized gender-specific residential treatment program for women. Hannah House by Origins is a branch of the Florida-based Origins Behavioral Healthcare substance abuse treatment organization. Hannah House specializes in helping women with co-occurring disorders and providing trauma-informed care.

Accommodations and Food

Hannah House by Origins is a two-story modern home that is elegantly decorated and spacious. The program only has space for up to 10 women at a time, which allows for personal attention and a deep bond between the clients as they experience treatment together. There are three bedrooms; one is private and the other two are shared. The shared rooms are very large and all beds are queen sized. There are three bathrooms, one for each room, with marble countertops, a bathtub and separate shower. Each client gets a dresser and plenty of closet space.

The shared living room and well-stocked kitchen are downstairs, furnished with leather couches, a big screen TV with cable, state-of-the-art appliances and a dining table that seats six. The kitchen comes with the bonus of a personal chef who prepares all the meals and snacks for the clients, working closely with each individual and a nutritionist to ensure the most healthy and delicious choices.

Treatment and Staff

Clients at Hannah House by Origins receive an initial evaluation that determines whether they need detox and if the program would be a good fit. Women who need detox do so off site, then return for treatment. In most cases the complete detox process can be done in less than a week.

The residential program can last anywhere from 30 to 90 days. Personal devices like cell phones and computers are allowed after an initial “blackout” period of 14 days. This time allows for each client to get acclimated to the program schedule and new surroundings. Group and individual sessions incorporate both traditional styles of treatment, like CBT, DBT and EMDR, as well as holistic options like hypnotherapy or music, art and equine therapy.

Daily treatment is supplemented by mandatory 12-step meetings and each client is expected to attend at least five outside AA or NA meetings per week. Step work and journaling are a part of the daily schedule. Frequent psychoeducation groups and classes cover relapse prevention, coping skills and the science behind addiction.

On-site staff are available for support and guidance 24/7. The treatment team at Hannah House by Origins consists of Master’s-level case workers, therapists, psychiatrists, psychologists, nutritionists, fitness trainers and trauma specialists.

During free time, clients can explore the nearby beach, take a yoga class or take part in a group meditation. A gym membership is included with access to an on-site personal trainer.

In Summary

Hannah House by Origins offers luxury care for women in an intimate environment. Residents are provided with plenty of structure, but not lacking in comfort. With the benefit of the larger Origins network and a beautiful location, this is an excellent option for women seeking a safe space to begin their recovery. To protect the privacy of clients, the exact address is not disclosed.

  1. I’m Not Saying on

I’m so sorry about your daughter. I was a patient at Origins and left after 26 days because I, too, became suicidal while there. I’ve read the information here about Origins and it looks like they’ve changed a few things since I was there a few years ago. We had more women at Hannah’s House, we were only allowed one off campus AA meeting per week, we had NO free time (yoga, gym, Zumba were all required), we fixed our own breakfast, and it was our responsibility to set the tables and clean up after each meal. Additionally, we were forced to be with the other residents 24/7 with no breaks from each other. Not permitted to walk to classes 3-4 blocks away (always in a van). My psychologist did not care about me in the least and the RAs regularly lied to us and were hypocrites. After I left Origins, I immediately went to another rehab which saved my life. I’m actually grateful to Origins for showing me how bad a rehab can be without it costing me my life. I wish Dr Phil would find a better and more compsssionate rehab to send his guests to for help.

  2. Hannah House nearly killed my daughter. They are not experienced with dealing with trauma like they state. The staff are not trained and do not have the skill level necessary. I also found they were not forthcoming and dishonest. We were truly disappointed with the care they provided. They were reckless with med changes causing my daughter to become suicidal.
