Accommodations and Food
Hader Women’s inpatient program is located at the site of The Hader Clinic’s original headquarters. The large compound is set in a rural area called Bacchus Marsh in the picturesque woods (or “bushland” in Aussie) of Wombat State Forest. The center has a total of 20 beds and each woman is given a private room to begin their recovery journey in peace. Each client has an en suite bathroom with a shower and a full or queen bed, dresser, closet and bedside table with a lamp. The facility also has offices, meeting spaces, therapy rooms, a gym and a couple of cozy living rooms where residents can hang out and watch TV.
Hader Women’s Rehab has an on-site cooking staff who prepare three hot meals a day for clients. The chef works off a set menu but can accommodate dietary restrictions or needs. The kitchen also has coffee, snacks and juice available all day.
Treatment and Staff
The treatment process at Hader Women’s Rehab begins with an assessment with one of the organization’s counselors to help assess the individual’s level of need. Hader Women’s Rehab offers on-site medical detox if necessary. Those experiencing withdrawal symptoms from opiates can be treated by on-site medical staff with Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT). Hader Women’s Rehab is also equipped to provide dual diagnosis support and has consulting psychiatrists and mental health therapists on staff to treat clients with co-occurring disorders.
Although the exact length of the program is based on the client’s needs, the average stay at Hader Women’s Rehab is 90 days. After the detox process, women join in daily check-in, counseling and support sessions with the facility’s medical and therapeutic staff. The treatment consists of both group and individual therapy, with clients attending group sessions every day. Counselors use a variety of treatment techniques including CBT and relapse prevention. Parenting classes are provided as well as classes on stress management and health and wellness. Individual sessions are available based on the needs of the client. Hader Women’s Rehab also integrates the 12 steps into treatment. Clients can attend up to three outside AA/NA meeting per week and the organization provides transportation to and from these outside meetings.
The staff includes Master’s-level mental health therapists, doctors, nurses, consulting psychiatrists, as well as a chef and various other support staff. Team members are often ex-clients who have successfully completed the Hader rehab programs and bring their personal knowledge of recovery to their roles.
Extras
Many traditional and complementary therapies are available each day including massage, acupuncture, equine and art therapy. Hader Women’s Rehab also offers family counseling and group sessions aimed at providing substance abuse education as well as addressing co-dependency issues.
As clients move through treatment, counselors meet with clients regularly to help with aftercare planning. This includes helping clients find stable housing in one of the organization’s sober homes, look for jobs and possibly transition into Hader outpatient programs for further treatment.
