Accommodations and Food

Equipped for only 10 clients at a time, Gunnebah Addiction Retreat offers a private, secluded recovery experience. It’s in the middle of beautiful, natural countryside, and far removed from the hustle and bustle of city life. While residents share bathrooms, they stay in private bungalows made of the local mud brick. The rooms have full-sized beds, storage, an outdoor patio and a garden.

There is a large spacious hall for group activities and many smaller rooms for consultations and therapy. Residents can enjoy a large indoor lounge area that includes a library and selection of DVDs. Gunnebah also offers many outdoor amenities including a saltwater pool, gardens, walking trails, an outdoor fire pit, a creek and nearby beach, as well as Mount Warning. There are also chickens, goats, cows and dogs on the property.

A catering team prepares delicious and healthy meals. With a wide range of options, they can accommodate clients with dietary preferences. There is a also a hot drink station with teas and coffee.

Treatment and Staff

Before beginning treatment, clients undergo a comprehensive intake assessment. It helps determine the most effective individualized care plan. When necessary, clients immediately transition into medical detox. It includes supervision and medication management for withdrawal symptoms. Upon completion, clients transfer into the residential phase that lasts between 30 and 90 days.

Gunnebah Addiction Retreat employs a multifaceted approach to care. The team integrates an array of therapeutic methods including medical consults, evidence-based therapies, life skills and vast range of holistic and recreational activities. Clients consult with a physician twice a week. They engage in individual therapy once a week, and daily group therapy rooted in CBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI). Psychoeducation seminars focus on the disease of addiction, the benefits of nutrition, and life skills like financial management. 

The multidisciplinary team at Gunnebah Addiction Retreat is comprised of PsyD’s, general practitioners, Master’s-level therapists, addiction counselors and a culinary team. Medication management is an integral component of the initial assessment, and dual diagnosis support is available for clients with co-occurring disorders.


Holistic treatments include yoga, meditation, gardening, art therapy and Tai chi. The facility places a premium on nature activities. As such, there is a vast range available. Residents enjoy surfing, kayaking, golf, volleyball, ping pong, park tours, paddleboarding, sailing and horseback riding.

Gunnebah Addiction Retreat is a non-smoking facility. Clients can receive substitutes when needed.
