Treatment and Staff
Guiding Independence provides a relaxed, supportive and positive atmosphere where clients can feel comfortable to let down their guard and open up. The goal of treatment is not only to treat the symptoms, but to heal the “whole person” and guide them to personal growth. Guiding Independence understands the importance of comfort and safety when it comes to the success of therapy. As such, Young offers a free initial consultation to new clients. This serves two purposes: to give new clients an idea and feel for Young’s methods, and allow Young the chance to determine the best possible personalized treatment plan.
Guiding Independence employs an eclectic care approach that implements several therapies including evidence-based methods, holistic practices and solution-focused therapy for individuals in need of more practical, goal oriented path. Clients engage in individual, couple and group sessions rooted in CBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI) and relaxation therapy. In addition to therapeutic methods, Guiding Independence provide individuals with effective coping strategies and preventative techniques that manage excessive stress and anger, and vastly diminish the likelihood of relapse. Guiding Independence also offers regular workshops on an array of topics including grief and loss, parenting seminars and nutrition education classes that helps clients make more informed decisions about their diet and general health and happiness.
As previously mentioned, Guiding Independence is the private practice of Master’s-level counselor Debra Young. She also has her Bachelor’s in Social Work. With over three decades of experience, Young has worked in residential treatment facilities, nursing homes and children’s behavioral health as well as the foster care system and juvenile courts. As Young is not a physician or psychiatrist, medication management is not available.
Young also offers a vision board workshop that is open to the public.
Guiding Independence Counseling Service boasts over 33 years of professional experience treating children, adolescents, adults, couples and families. Young provides individualized outpatient treatment for individuals struggling with mental health challenges and issues affecting their personal life, marriage and family.
