Guidance for Growing Review
Guidance for Growing is a private practice in Pennsylvania founded by two mental health professionals seeking to provide an integrative and individualized approach to the treatment of substance abuse and addiction. With two offices—one in Souderton and the other in Perkasie—the substance abuse treatment program at GFG is exclusively outpatient with an emphasis on support for co-occurring disorders.
Treatment and Staff
The treatment program at GFG starts with an initial two-hour diagnostic evaluation and assessment to determine a number of factors that may affect the client’s treatment. Pertinent medical, employment, educational, family, social, legal and mental health background information is gathered for each client from which a unique treatment plan is developed. The type and frequency of therapies as well as the duration of treatment are tailored for each individual’s needs.
Individual therapy is scheduled independently between client and counselor, however group sessions are held daily and cover a variety of topics such as relapse prevention, coping skills, personal growth and aftercare planning. GFG also offers separate informational classes and educational seminars for clients, their families and community members seeking further information on alcohol and drug dependence.
Treatment for co-occurring mental health disorders is also integrated into plans if deemed necessary, as is family therapy. An integrative approach to treatment is used at GFG that incorporates CBT, DBT and EMDR. The 12 steps are not incorporated into the program.
The staff at GFG consists of a clinical psychotherapist and a Certified Health Counselor (CHC).
Extras
GFG also provides general health services, which includes health and nutritional counseling, wellness services, mental health counseling and treatment and two other recovery programs: one for gambling and the other focusing on intervention and prevention.
