Grundy County Health Department Review

Treatment and Staff
Prior to beginning treatment, each client must undergo an initial assessment. The treatment approach aims to strengthen each individual using evidence based therapies such as CBT. In addition to treatment for substance abuse, support for co-occurring disorders is also available. Though not available at Grundy County, referrals for detox and residential can be made upon request.
Individual sessions usually each last an hour, offering privacy and one-on-one attention. Topics such as coping skills and relapse prevention are covered, as well as mental health concerns when necessary. Clients can also discuss the 12 steps with their counselors if they wish. All participants are encouraged to attend meetings and get a AA/NA sponsor as well, though this is not strictly required.
Group therapy is also an important part of recovery through Grundy County. Several groups per week are offered, with topics such as meditation, stress and anxiety, mental illness, conflict resolution and anger management available. The number of groups attended varies by individual.
The staff consists of psychiatrists, Master’s-level therapists, mental heath clinicians and LADCs. Group sizes range from 10 to 15 clients at a time. Medication can be prescribed for mental health issues whenever necessary as well.

Treatment is available in English and Spanish. Additional services include DUI evaluations, risk education classes and crisis interventions.
