Since 1971, Growth Works has provided the residents of Wayne County, Michigan with substance abuse, behavioral and mental health treatment. All programs utilize evidence-based practices, with outpatient programs available for adults. For adolescents, gender-separated residential treatment is offered at Wolverine Pioneer Campus and the Vassar House. The state-licensed facility received also provides family services, including school-based and community support programs.
Treatment and Staff
Clients seeking treatment first complete a comprehensive assessment that evaluates all aspects of their life and health. The clinician then recommends an individualized treatment plan. Referrals to inpatient facilities are made if medically monitored detox or around the clock supervision is required. Licensed therapists, LADCs and LCSWs provide treatment, including dual diagnosis support and medication management.
For adults over 18, the outpatient substance abuse program consists of drug and alcohol education classes, group and individual therapy, with mandatory attendance at 12-step meetings. Treatment intensity and length depends on individual needs, willingness and commitment to recovery, but can be up to four times a week and lasts six months. Initially, referring parties such as parole officers, courts, families and employers may provide input on whether the client’s treatment plan satisfies their requirements. Random drug testing may be performed, and though abstinence is required, clients that relapse may continue the program under some circumstances.
Process groups focus on education and awareness of chemical dependency and resulting behaviors, while identifying and preventing relapse triggers. Sessions aim to provide tools for effective communication, problem solving and stress management, ultimately helping clients identify their strengths to achieve success. Application of 12-step principles helps clients develop coping skills and identify and manage feelings, while surrounded by a community committed to recovery and support.
Aftercare programs are available and consist of group therapy, two days a week, with additional individual and family sessions. Together with therapists and peers, clients learn effective relapse prevention strategies and life skills, utilizing 12-step principles in gender-separated sessions. The family program requires families attend one week of education and therapy as a required part of aftercare.
Community support programs offer safe housing, healthcare and emergency services for the elderly, victims of domestic abuse and others through a network of non-profit organizations. Supervised parenting allows visitation to occur in a warm and safe environment, while trained monitors ensure court-ordered requirements and limits are met.
Growth Works offers a wide range of substance abuse services, including intervention, prevention, residential treatment for teens, outpatient and aftercare options for all ages. The integrated 12-step approach ensures a supportive community once treatment is completed for both the client and their family.
