Grief Solutions Counseling Center Review
Grief Solutions Counseling Center (GSCC) provides culturally-sensitive group and individual therapy to members of Native American communities in treatment in southern California. GSCC opened in early 2017 and currently provides Wellbriety treatment to clients of AJ’s Amethyst House, a residential program in San Jacinto. GSCC specializes in using Wellbriety to help Native American women process grief and trauma in order to heal from addiction.
In addition to its work at AJ’s Amethyst, GSCC also holds periodic workshops in its facility in Lake Elsinore. It hopes to expand its offerings in the near future and provide Wellbriety treatment in other inpatient and outpatient facilities throughout California.
Treatment and Staff
Typically, GSCC asks clients to attend group therapy twice a week and individual therapy once a week. Groups use Wellbriety’s 12 Step Medicine Wheel and Mending Broken Hearts curricula. GSCC also takes clients to a nearby sweat lodge each week for physical and spiritual detox. In addition, GSCC recommends that clients attend additional 12-step meetings at their tribe, treatment center or in their community.
The experienced treatment team at GSCC includes CADACs, LCSWs and MFTs as well as Native American advisors and spiritual elders. Its psychologist also offers equine-assisted psychotherapy.
At its Lake Elsinore location, GSCC offers a weekly men’s group and a weekly women’s group and is preparing to launch a couples’ therapy group. Its clinicians also provide family therapy.
Extras
GSCC takes great care in making sure all of its clients have comprehensive aftercare plans, which may include outpatient treatment, on-going individual therapy and/or peer support meetings near their home. Its clinicians keep an ‘open door’ policy and welcome past clients checking in when they need additional support or guidance. GSCC also helps clients locate employment opportunities and secure short-term sober living.
GSCC holds a periodic Spanish Grief Recovery Group at its facility.
