The Basics
GreeneStone Muskoka is a detox and residential treatment program located in Bala, Ontario, just outside of Toronto in Canada. Treatment includes an array of evidence-based approaches for clients who are struggling with dual diagnosis and chemical dependency concerns. Methods like CBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI) and 12-step modalities are incorporated into treatment in addition to some personal improvement trainings and relapse prevention. Programming is holistic and comprehensive within a structured and supportive, private environment.
Accommodations and Food
Clients reside in luxury accommodations on over 48 acres of land with lakeside views and state of the art amenities. Bedrooms are on the small side, but are private with queen beds, dressers and en suite bathrooms within a lodge style facility. The grounds are surrounded by three large lakes with therapy buildings shrouded by dense trees, with benches and gazebos throughout the park-like campus.
One of the cornerstones of Greenstone’s program is the dining experience they provide for their clients. There are three set meals a day, designed by a nutritionist freshly prepared by world class chefs. The food is organic and local, much of which is grown in the facility community garden. The menu’s display a variety of international tastes that are nourishing and delicious.
Treatment and Staff
Programming tracks run from 45 to 90 days on average, though some clients choose to stay for up to one year. A typical day begins with an 8 am wake up for breakfast and is followed by check in and process groups. There are daily education sessions, individual therapy meetings and gender-specific groups. Clients receive medication management services at the same time every day, and attend an AA or NA meeting in the evenings, some of which are held on site and others within the community.
Treatment utilizes a Seeking Safety approach for clients who may have experienced trauma or suffer from PTSD. Other methods of recreational therapy, mindfulness training, and relaxation techniques are essential parts of treatment.
Dr. Anita Teslak has overseen the clinical staff of Greenestone since its incpetipn in 2011. Staff includes LCSWs, CADCs, RNs, CCACs and addiction specialists.
Extras
There is an indoor and outdoor swimming pool on site, a sauna and weekly massages. Yoga is led by a certified instructor three times a week followed by a meditation. Fitness and recreation includes a personal trainer, tennis and basketball on campus courts, volleyball and shuffleboard, and two weight and cardio rooms with machines and free weights.
The sprawling grounds contain a walking path and jogging track, and fishing is permitted in the pond.
There are several family support programs that includes individual and group therapy, and psychoeducation. They are also connected to support groups like Al-Anon and are provided with aftercare follow up services.
