Green Lake House Review
Green Lake House in Dania Beach of South Florida is a women’s only sober living facility about 15 minutes outside of Fort Lauderdale. Programming is supportive and based on the 12 steps along with holistic practices like meditation, Reiki and spiritual guidance. Clients experience a peaceful place to stay as they transition back into their communities. Green Lake House promotes balance and tranquility in life while practicing living a God-centered existence.
Accommodations and Amenities
The one story ranch style home where clients stay has three bedrooms and two bathrooms set on a lake. Clients have dorm style accommodations and sleep in bunkbeds with up to four per room. Shared common areas include a living room with couches that surround a flat screen TV; a full kitchen with stainless steel appliances; a dining room and a patio space. The sprawling lakeside grounds have native foliage and wildlife, along with a small duck pond. There are also a few house pets living at Green Lake House.
Clients are allowed to have their cell phones, computers and own cars while they’re living at the facility.
Rules and Regulations
Clients who are coming into Green Lake House have been working on their sobriety and are coming out of an intensive treatment program. Residents focus on accountability and personal maintenance. A revolving schedule of chores are done every Wednesday and Sunday around the house and clients have to keep their personal spaces tidy and neat. Though guests are permitted, no one can spend the night, and only those who are sober can hang out in the common areas after receiving permission from the house manager.
Everyone attends daily AA or NA meetings and have to obtain a sponsor right away. Curfews vary depending on the individual. They are either 10 or 11 pm weeknights and 1 am weekends, and there is no smoking in the house or use of candles allowed. Additionally, there are regular random drug tests that clients have to agree to on their own dime.
There is no set amount of time that clients are required to reside at Green Lake House, but on average the length of time is about three months. There is a house manager on site 24 hours a day that offers resources to the clients if they’re looking to get a job, enroll in classes or volunteer.
Extras
A guided imagery meditation is led twice weekly by a certified Natural Health Practitioner, and instructor-led yoga is offered regularly. There are also Reiki sessions that accompany the meditation along with spiritual guidance.
