The Gordon Moody Association is a non-profit treatment organization. It specializes in the care of clients struggling with an addiction to gambling. Reverend Gordon Moody founded the facility in 1971. It has two men’s residential facilities, transitional housing, outreach and a gender-specific mixed model of care that bookends outpatient treatment with short residential retreats. Perhaps most noteworthy, the organization offers the only specialized treatment program for gambling in the United Kingdom. Gordon Moody does not offer care for substance use disorders or mental health conditions, Consequently, medication management is not available. It uses 12-step as the cornerstone of the programming.
Accommodations and Food
The two Gordon Moody residential facilities are in the West Midlands and the border of Kent and London. The West Midlands facility is situated in two sturdy brick buildings with accommodations for up to 22 residents. Clients enjoy a nice, landscaped campus and the surrounding scenic Herefordshire landscape. In addition to bedrooms, the facility offers therapy rooms, common areas for socializing, an outdoor patio and a billiards table.
Gordon Moody offers residents three healthy meals a day. They can accommodate individuals with dietary restrictions.
Treatment and Staff
Clients go through a phone interview with a Gordon Moody team member. As a result, the team member can help determine the most effective treatment strategy. From there, residents enter a two-week assessment phase followed by a 12 week residential program. The organization also offers men’s and women’s mixed model tracks. They combine residential and outpatient programming into one well-rounded treatment experience.
The program begins and ends with a short, three-day treatment retreat. The retreats provide individuals with a stable and supportive environment with a tight-knit community of peers, away from distractions. The programming includes an array of group sessions and psychoeducation workshops that focus on behavior patterns and the disease of addiction. Upon completion, clients participate in once-a-week individual therapy sessions for between eight and 12 weeks. These sessions can either be in-person or online. The program culminates with a two-day retreat that offers group therapy and workshops. Clients will also have the opportunity to work with a case manager to design a personalized plan for continued support. Finally, the men’s mixed program includes four additional weekly sessions after the second retreat.
Gordon Moody Association employs a team of therapists as well as mixed model and residential managers. The facility does not provide dual diagnosis support.
