G & G Holistic Addiction Treatment Program is an inpatient substance abuse facility in Miami Beach, Florida. Founded 20 years ago by recovering addicts John Giordano and Jerry Goldfarb, G&G is the result of their desire to share their personal journeys and over 44 combined years of recovery experience with others.
G&G’s program takes a three-fold approach to recovery by treating the body, mind and spirit using a holistic approach that views addiction as less of a disease and more of a dual diagnosis system. Treatment specifically addresses the emotional, spiritual and psychological needs of each client and recovery is dependent upon each individual’s motivation to live a healthy and fulfilling life.
In addition to alternative treatment methods, a wide range of evidence-based practices are used including Motivational Interviewing (MI), DBT, Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) and EMDR.
Accommodations and Food
G&G is located roughly ten minutes from the famous Miami beaches. The landscaped grounds feature an ornate gazebo and thoughtfully planted indigenous plants and trees. The grounds are arranged with a treatment facility surrounded by guesthouses. All rooms are furnished comfortably with contemporary decor. There are three living rooms, a library and a holistic healing center. The 62 bed facility accommodates clients in gender-specific double rooms—each with two twin-sized beds, a shared dresser and a nightstand.
Nutrition is considered one of the most critical components of recovery at G&G and treatment aims to rebuild a healthy body and mind. Multiple chefs prepare meals three times a day taking into account the specific recommendations of a registered nutritionist. All meals are low-carb and high protein. Special dietary needs are accommodated upon request. Snacks and sodas are allowed on site, as is smoking in designated areas. Clients are also permitted to have their cell phones and laptops with them while in treatment.
Treatment and Staff
Residents undergo a comprehensive psychological and bio-psycho-social assessment during intake that determines their individualized treatment plan as well as a vitamin supplement regimen. A medical detox is available for clients requiring assistance which includes supervised use of Suboxone. During treatment, each resident receives over 40 hours a week of both individual and group therapy and is carefully matched with an individual therapist whose personality best serves the client.
A typical day begins with a 6:45 am wake-up followed by a 7:15 am spiritual meeting then breakfast at 8 am. The rest of the day is spent in one-one-one sessions and groups with lunch served at 12 pm and dinner at 5:15 pm. Lights must be out at 11:30 pm.
The staff at G&G includes over 80 credentialed individuals including a medical director, two psychiatrists, a full time on-site registered nurse, MFTs and Master’s-level counselors. Roughly 40% of the staff lends their personal experience to treatment as they are in recovery as well.
Extras
In addition to group and individual therapy, each client receives an acupuncture, full body therapeutic massage treatment, a colonic and/or Reiki energy sessions five days a week. Clients also follow a regimen that includes weekly spa visits for whirlpool, steam and saunas. Residents work out three times a week at an off-site gym and are taken to a weekly Karate class. G&G prides itself on remaining open to new therapies and recovery-supportive scientific findings and is committed to an ever-evolving treatment program.
G&G also offers a lifetime of aftercare which includes a weekly group therapy session for local clients, and a weekly telephone check-in session with a counselor for clients who live outside the area. Additionally, arrangements are made for a private weekly session (in a locale convenient for the client) with an aftercare therapist for the first 30 days following completion of the G&G program.
