Georgia Detox and Recovery Centers Review

Georgia Detox and Recovery Centers is a network of substance abuse and mental health treatment facilities, run by parent company Rivermend Health, in various locations around Georgia. All four GDRC locations—in Athens, Marietta, Augusta and Macon—offer Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP), as well as Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP) and dual diagnosis support. Clients are introduced to the 12-step approach and also have access to a relapse prevention program after they complete primary treatment. GDRC detox services are offered in collaboration with a specialized unit that is close to the Augusta facility and which the GDRC medical director oversees.

Treatment and Staff

After completing detox at the Augusta location, clients typically go into the IOP or PHP. Clients who do not need detox services are also welcome to enroll. The IOP offers individual and group CBT sessions that clients attend three to five days per week, between 9 am and 12 pm. Clients become familiar with the 12-step concept and are encouraged to attend AA/NA meetings in the community.

PHP takes place Monday through Friday from 9 am to 4 pm. Clients get more intensive services than in the outpatient programs, as they are seen by a psychiatrist, a medical doctor, a nurse and a social worker. Clients receive medical and psychiatric evaluations, and take part in individual, group and even family therapy. Vocational and educational counseling is also provided as is drug screening and medically supervised use of medications. Those clients who need treatment for co-occurring disorders take part in the PHP, which provides dual-diagnosis support.

Finally, the relapse prevention program consists of support groups that help clients to handle the challenges involved in maintaining sobriety. Sessions are led by mental health professionals or addicts who have successfully battled their addiction and remain sober.

All GDRC clients get to see a medical doctor and all facilities are staffed with nurses. Each client is assigned one of the certified substance abuse counselors, who follows their progress on a one-on-one basis.

Extras

Dr. Elizabeth Board, a medical doctor who is double board-certified in pain management and anesthesia, runs GDRC’s functional medicine program for those with chronic pain issues who may be battling addiction to prescription pain medication. Clients are able to seek alternatives to chronic pain relief through techniques that include massage, acupuncture and naturopathy.

GDRC adds to its standard treatment with holistic services including guided meditation and yoga. Clients are also provided time with nutritionists and spiritual consultants.

The rehab has also designed a low glycemic diet to help clients build dopamine levels back up through nutrition.

In Summary

Georgia Detox and Recovery Centers offers comprehensive substance abuse treatment and plenty of wellness extras to boost the process of recovery. The PHP charges clients $600 per day, resulting in a monthly cost that may not be within everyone’s budget. However, the IOP only charges $300 a day. For those who can afford it, this program provides awesome outpatient options.
