Founded in 1993, Genesis Programs provides outpatient treatment for substance abuse in Ventura County, California. With offices in the cities of Ventura and Thousand Oaks, clients can choose a location that best suits their needs. The program offers several levels of care, ranging from a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) to Intensive Outpatient (IOP) to aftercare. Through intensive group therapy and 12-step meetings, clients can work toward a new life.
Accommodations and Food
Genesis Programs’ sunny Southern California facilities occupy freestanding office spaces that create a peaceful setting for recovery and are easily accessible for people who live in the community. Both buildings include group therapy rooms, lecture halls and offices.
Since this facility only offers outpatient treatment, meals are not a part of the deal. However, clients have access to the kitchen fridge, as well as fresh coffee and snacks.
Treatment is based on the 12 steps, promoting recovery meetings and abstinence. Both locations offer several levels of care, starting with partial hospitalization. This option operates twice a day, from 9 am to 12 pm and 6 pm to 9 pm, five days a week—as close to residential treatment as you can get, without completely giving up normal life. Typically, clients spend one to two weeks at this level before moving on to the intensive outpatient program, which offers support four to five times per week for three hours at a time. Clients can choose between morning or night sessions and the average treatment period is two to three months. That is usually followed by six weeks of less intensive treatment. Each three-hour window of treatment costs $200.
All the levels of care have similar structures: a lot of group therapy, educational lectures and optional family therapy. Therapy is conducted by a handful of certified counselors, with topics such as anger management, trauma, processing, life skills and relapse prevention. Clients also have the chance to become familiar lectures with the disease concept of addiction by attending lectures, as well as gain further insight into 12-step recovery.
Genesis Programs’ facilities host a family night every Tuesday, with family members invited to attend group therapy and lectures. Clients who wish to receive private therapy sessions with their family members can do so with a counselor at no additional cost.
The 12 steps are a huge part of Genesis Programs’ recovery model. While clients spend their week inside the facilities, their weekends are reserved for 12-step groups. All clients are required to attend AA/NA meetings, in addition to obtaining a sponsor. Through this relationship, clients begin working on steps one through three, as well as other assignments.
After outpatient treatment is completed, clients can return to the facility once a week for complimentary aftercare. This service provides feedback, coping skills and identification of early relapse warning signs.
The staff includes a medical director, counselors and a treatment program coordinator.
Genesis Programs offers 12-step based outpatient treatment with a variety of care options. The program’s flexibility allows clients to continue with their regular lives as they address their addiction.
