Genesis Counseling Services Review
Genesis Counseling Services, located in Framingham, Massachusetts, provides outpatient substance abuse treatment to adolescents and adults. Programs focus primarily on treating addiction through evidence-based group therapy sessions, though individual sessions are also available upon request. In general, treatment is non-intensive and highly customized around each individual’s needs.
Treatment and Staff
Treatment at GCS begins with an intake process led by a clinician. Those interested in completing an alcohol and drug evaluation may do so, though these services are typically only required for court-ordered clients. Upon intake, clients work with a counselor to develop an individualized treatment plan. Those struggling with dual diagnosis issues are not provided medication management on-site, though referrals can be made upon request.
Adolescent services include a Teen Talk program and a Youth Substance Abuse Program (YoSAP). Teen Talk offers interactive group therapy sessions for male and female teens between the ages of 14 and 18. Those participating in this program are required to attend one group therapy session a week held on Wednesdays from 6 to 7:30 pm. During groups, counselors discuss stress management, substance abuse awareness, sober relationships, family dynamics, peer pressure and the community impact of substance abuse. Teens in the YoSAP program attend psycho-educational lectures on the first three Thursdays of each month for an hour and a half. Lectures focus on teaching participants about the negative effects of alcohol and drug abuse.
Adult chemical dependency services are available through gender-specific group therapy sessions held for an hour and a half each. Although groups are kept separate by gender, each covers similar topics such as relapse prevention, the disease of addiction, trauma, co-occurring disorders and coping skills. Men have access to four groups a week that take place on Monday through Thursday while women are provided group therapy on Wednesday and Thursday. Frequency of groups and duration of treatment varies depending on each client’s situation; adults can also schedule individual therapy sessions as needed.
Staff members include licensed mental health counselors, LADCs, interns and counselors with at least a Bachelor’s degree in psychology. Treatment techniques include CBT, DBT and psycho-education.
Extras
A 10-week psycho-educational anger management program is available for adults ages 18 and older. The program is co-ed and consists of groups sessions focused on addressing anger issues and domestic violence. Project Parenting is an eight-week program for parents interested in receiving educational and therapeutic support to establish healthy relationships with their children. The program meets every Wednesday from 4:30 to 6 pm. Court-ordered clients are welcome to attend programming at GCS as well.

At Genesis Counseling Services, clients can participate in non-acute care provided by a team of professionals with years of experience dealing with substance abuse and mental health disorders. Both adults and adolescents can receive treatment, with limited support for those co-occurring disorders available as well.
