Gateways Hospital Normandie Village Review
Normandie Village is an Adult Residential Facility (ARF) affiliated with Gateways Hospital and Mental Health Center in Los Angeles, California. It provides clinical services and fosters independent living skills for those who have recently left an intensive inpatient program and are looking to transition back into their communities. Normandie Village facilitates regular group and individual therapy, medication management and individualIzed case management.
Accommodations and Food
Normandie Village can provide beds for up to 48 adults, ages 18 to 59. The two story, apartment style building offers shared accommodations and common areas. This includes a media room with TV and couches, dining room and kitchen. There are set areas where clients are allowed to smoke outside as well.
Treatment and Staff
The residents of Normandie Village typically are stepping down from a more intensive inpatient program and are transitioning back into their communities. Normandie Village offers a bit of freedom during the day in that clients are able to come and go as long as they check in with staff when they leave and come back. There are quarterly progress reviews when clients sit down with their counselors and assess where they are in terms of being able to move on to an independent living situation.
In addition to daily clinical services, like group sessions and medication management, there are also medical services provided and daily living skills trainings. This can be managing set goals throughout their program, like finding a job, socialization, being able to manage their time more effectively, improving communication skills and conflict resolution. Throughout their stay clients work with their therapists on their aftercare plans as well. Independent living skills cover health and wellness education, HIV education, and job placement assistance.
Treatment is evidence-based using CBT methods. There are also 12-step options through off-site meetings, and clients are encouraged to find an additional support community. Clinical staff is provided by the Department of Mental Health.
Extras
There are family counseling options in both a group and individual setting. Additionally clients go out on recreational activities and outings, have in-house speakers and lecturers.

Gateways’ Normandie Village ARF offers a safe step-down housing option for clients who have had trouble being placed in a community setting in the past due to prior hospitalizations. There are several options in terms of wrap around services with the main objective being that the clients are able to reintegrate back into the community as smoothly as possible.
