Fresh Start Recovery CenterFresh Start Recovery Center Review

Fresh Start Recovery Center is a CARF-accredited residential treatment facility offering extended care to mothers struggling with addiction in Indianapolis, Indiana. The program is owned and operated by the Volunteers of America Indiana branch and provides housing for both mothers and their children.

Accommodations and Food

Fresh Start Recovery Center has 15 beds available for women and their children. Mothers stay with their kids in their own rooms whenever possible though some families may be made to share rooms depending on space. The facility is set up like a large residential home with rooms outfitted with twin beds, dressers, shared closet space and cribs when necessary. There are also common areas with cable TV, on-site laundry units and a fully-equipped kitchen. Throughout their stay, residents cook and prepare their own meals, though they sometimes cook together and make meals for the entire house.

Treatment and Staff

Before beginning a program, all clients go through an initial intake and assessment process to help staff members develop their treatment plans. Though detox services are not available on-site, those in need can get referrals to nearby facilities. While the specifics of each program may vary, treatment is generally broken into two distinct phases.

During the initial phase, an acute stabilization period that lasts for 21 days, residents attend both individual and group therapy centered around evidence-based practices including CBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI). Trauma-informed care and extensive case management services are also provided to deal with any outstanding legal issues and to aid in discharge planning. Groups cover a range of topics including relapse prevention, life skills, parenting techniques, home economics, meal planning and addiction education. Day care services and family therapy are also provided. Residents attend regular 12-step meetings throughout the program. While support for basic co-occurring disorders like depression and anxiety may be available, those with more severe issues may need to seek additional help elsewhere.

Those who complete phase one of primary care usually transition into a second phase of extended treatment for up to 54 more days. While this phase features much of the same treatment principles, it focuses more on case management and helping women find steady employment.

The staff at Fresh Start Recovery Center consists of RNs, MDs, LMHCs, LACs, case managers and Master’s-level clinicians.

In Summary

Fresh Start Recovery Center is a stable, family-oriented recovery program for women and their children. Treatment relies on evidence-based care and the 12-step recovery philosophy while also teaching women all the skills they need to run a household after the program ends. For women seeking an affordable residential treatment option, Fresh Start Recovery Center is a strong resource.
