Mount Vernon OhioThe Basics

Located in Mount Vernon, Ohio, The Freedom Center of Knox County offers comprehensive substance abuse treatment for adults and adolescents. Using evidence-based therapies, clients can choose from a range of outpatient tracks including an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), a gender-specific women’s program, an adolescent program, medication management and a program for co-occurring disorders.

Treatment and Staff

Following an initial biopsychosocial evaluation, individualized treatment plans are developed. The length of time spent in treatment depends the individual. Though The Freedom Center does not offer detox, referrals can be provided if necessary.

The adult IOP offers a high level of support, with clients meeting for three-hour group therapy sessions three times a week. Using evidence-based therapies such as CBT, DBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI), in addition to the groups, the program includes individual therapy once a week. Topics often include relapse prevention, coping skills, early recovery skills and anger management. Referrals to local 12-step meetings in the community are provided upon request.

There’s also a gender-specific women’s program which includes individual counseling once a week, case management and group therapy. Group topics include substance abuse education, relationships, self-esteem, trauma, relapse prevention and personal goal setting.

The adolescent outpatient program can include basic education about addiction or a more intensive and structured schedule of therapy depending on the client. Group and individual therapy are both available, though the number of sessions for each client is determined on a case-by-case basis. Parent education is also available through this treatment path.

For those addicted to opiates, there is also a medically assisted withdrawal program. This is an outpatient option where clients are monitored by medical professionals.

Extras

The Freedom Center collaborates with Knox County Juvenile Court as an option for those sentenced through drug court. This program is tailored for at-risk youth. Decisions is a community education group, providing general information to those who do not meet criteria for more intensive programming.
