Fourth Dimension Sobriety Review
Founded in 2013 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin by CEO Jason Gonzalez, who is in recovery, Fourth Dimension Sobriety offers gender-specific sober living to men and women. The organization’s mission is to provide daily structure and support while residents practice new and healthy beliefs and incorporate a 12-step program in their lives.
Accommodations and Amenities
Fourth Dimension Sobriety accommodates 12 men and 10 women in two gender-specific houses, which are in close proximity. Residents are paired in furnished, double-occupancy rooms, which include twin beds, dressers and closets. Some singles are available, and are typically reserved for senior residents.
The homes include fully equipped kitchens, a living room, meditation room, outdoor patio and large backyard, which is used for barbeque grills, bonfires and cook-outs. Clients are responsible for their own food, and meal preparation. The houses both participate in a Sunday night community dinner. Amenities include cable TV, on-site free laundry and Wi-Fi. Jason Gonzalez lives on the premises of the men’s house, and is the residential manager.
Rules and Regulations
While it helps if applicants have completed primary care at a rehab facility, Gonzalez accepts clients on a case-by-case basis. He looks for men and women who have a strong willingness to work the steps and maintain lifetime sobriety from drugs and alcohol. Fourth Dimension Sobriety requires a six-month length commitment from all new residents. Requirements for every client include participating in morning meditation, getting a sponsor, actively working the steps, becoming a member of a home group and participating in an on-site Big Book study each day at 5:30 pm, Mondays through Fridays. Additionally, residents must participate in a Thursday night house meeting and be present at the Sunday evening community dinner.
Typically, the men stick with the men, and the women with the women, but community members participate in many activities together, which creates a strong sense of camaraderie, and also prepares both genders for life in the real world. However, a romantic or sexual relationship between residents is forbidden. Those who disobey this rule are immediately terminated from the premises. Other rules include performing household chores, working or attending school or performing community service.
The curfew is 11 pm Sundays through Thursdays, and midnight Fridays and Saturdays. Residents are required to participate in a heavy-duty deep cleaning task on Sundays. This double scrub event teaches them life skills, and reinforces a sense of community. Random drug and alcohol screenings are conducted. At Fourth Dimension Sobriety, those who relapse are removed from the premises to ensure the safety of the entire household.
Extras
Other services besides housing include addiction counseling off the premises. Usually, insurance covers the cost of individual therapy.
Fourth Dimension Sobriety is one block away from daily 12-step meetings, one and a half blocks away from nature trails, and in close proximity to coffee shops, café’s, restaurants, yoga studios and near most bus lines.
