As part of New Beginnings Recovery Center, Foundations Sober Living offers quality sober housing with a 12-step approach for men and women recovering from substance abuse. Located in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, this program is just a five-minute drive from the ocean. New Beginnings’ programs also provide assistance with employment, transportation and basic life skills.
Accommodations and Amenities
Men and women live in separate houses at Foundations, both of which have recently been renovated and updated with new furniture. Bedrooms are shared between two clients at a time and have twin-sized beds, bedding and wooden dressers. Each home also includes a washer and dryer, a living room with a flat-screen TV, Wi-Fi and cable, a modern kitchen with a coffee machine and all necessary cooking utensils, a dishwasher and an outdoor area for smoking. Complimentary rides are provided to and from the airport and bus and train stations.
When it comes to meals, residents are expected to shop and cook for themselves. The program sees these activities as crucial to learning necessary life skills. Clients can choose to prepare meals solo or as a group.
While the house does not offer a gym, clients are only five minutes from the beach and other sunny, outdoor areas perfect for a run or workout. The homes are also very close to New Beginnings’ other programs, multiple food and convenience stores, major bus stops, the downtown shopping plaza, the Gardens Mall and plenty of opportunities for employment.
Rules and Regulations
During their time at Foundations, clients are expected to abide by a strict set of rules. A minimum commitment of six months is required, although many clients end up staying a year or more. While living in the home, all residents must obtain outside employment, attend school, go to outpatient therapy or participate in a volunteer program. Assistance finding a job is readily available. In addition, clients must obtain a sponsor within the first two weeks of living in the house.
Attendance at house meetings is mandatory, as are a minimum of five outside outpatient or AA/NA meetings per week. Clients must continually be working the steps with their sponsor and attending meetings both in and out of the house. Residents must submit to random drug screenings as well, with a strict zero tolerance for relapse.
Depending on how long clients have been in the home and how they are progressing, a curfew between 10:30 pm to 12:30 am must be observed. An extra hour is granted on the weekends.
Clients all have access to optional services provided by New Beginnings Recovery Center, located a short walk from each of the sober living homes. These include an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), individual and group therapy, psychiatric and mental health services, medical detox and preventive addiction medical services.
New Beginnings Recovery Center offers a solid sober living experience in sunny Florida. While this program does require a lot from clients, those who commit to it will find a lot to like. With so many nearby programs such as IOP and other kinds of therapy readily available, residents have many recovery options at their fingertips.
