Spanish Fork UtahFoothill Residential Treatment Center Review

Foothill Residential Treatment Center was founded in 2000 and is operated by Utah County’s Department of Drug and Alcohol. Foothill provides co-ed residential treatment and a three- to 10-day detox unit. The facility is situated in Spanish Fork, a small city 50 miles south of Salt Lake City, and clients must be residents of Utah County to receive treatment.

Accommodations and Food

Clients are accommodated in a modern, high-ceilinged facility with a homey feel on an expansive property. Residents have views of the mountains and ample land on which to take walks. Men and women are housed in separate gender-specific wings of the building and have roommates and shared bathrooms. The facility features a common TV room for recreation and residents can also take advantage of outdoor volleyball and basketball courts.

Clients may not bring cell phones or computers into treatment, but they can use supervised house phones to call home. Standard American cafeteria fare is prepared by the kitchen staff, who take allergies and food preferences into account.

Treatment and Staff

Residents stay at Foothill for 30 to 45 days. After an initial intake assessment, a treatment plan is devised that includes daily group and individual therapy and life skills classes. The treatment team includes Master’s-level therapists such as LCSWs and CSUCD addiction counselors. There is also a nursing staff to help with medical needs.

The treatment team uses Motivational Interviewing (MI) in therapy as well as the 12-step framework. Residents attend two on-site 12-step meetings each week and are transported to additional meetings in the community several times a week. Foothill does not specialize in treating co-occurring disorders, but if residents exhibit mental health disorder symptoms they are transported to an area psychologist for dual diagnosis support.

In addition to recreational activities, evenings and afternoons can be spent participating in art therapy and craft projects.

Extras

As residents near the end of treatment, their counselors work with them to create a continuing care plan that may include outpatient treatment at another Utah County-run facility. Utah County also operates an OUT (On-Unit Treatment)—a substance abuse treatment program for the incarcerated.

In Summary

Utah County’s Foothill Residential Treatment Center provides detox and residential treatment in a scenic and relaxed setting. By taking residents to community peer support meetings and creating aftercare plans that help take advantage of local support resources, Foothill Residential Treatment Centers ensures that clients can continue their recovery journey after their time in residential treatment ends.
