Foothill Family Review
Located in Pasadena, California, Foothill Family is a community-based, nonprofit mental health treatment facility that specializes in the care of children and families living in the San Gabriel and Pomona Valleys, Glendale, and Burbank. Founded in 1926 by a community volunteer to raise funds for needy families, today Foothill serves over 20,000 clients in six locations as well as through community preschools, elementary, middle and high schools, community centers, and through in-home visits. Foothill has received the World at Work seal of distinction two years running, and provides comprehensive treatment for clients struggling with mental illnesses, domestic violence, trauma and stressful life events. Treatment and Staff
The overall goal of Foothill Family is to empower children and families through specialized programming. Before beginning treatment, clients undergo an assessment to help the staff create the most customized care plan to meet their specific needs. If deemed necessary, children are evaluated by Multidisciplinary Assessment Teams to determine the most appropriate placement for foster care.
Foothill utilizes a multi-layered treatment approach that offers a vast array of therapeutic services including individual and group therapy, family therapy and play therapy to help children express their feelings including trauma. The facility offers specialized support groups, skills training, educational workshops and mentoring. In addition, substance use disorder treatment and medication management are available as well as psychological testing.
Therapy is the cornerstone of treatment at Foothill, and the facility utilizes psychotherapy as well as evidence-based methods like CBT. Foothill therapists provide counseling services for over 170 schools and, if needed, in-home family therapy. In addition, the facility also offers couples counseling for adults as well as individual therapy for clients struggling with anxiety, depression and stressful life events.
Foothill Family employs more than 290 employees including MFTs, early childhood therapists, case managers, psychologists and consulting psychiatrists. Dual diagnosis support is available for individuals with co-occurring disorders.
The staff speaks English, American Sign Language, Khmer, Korean, Arabic, Mandarin, Armenian, Russian, Cantonese, Spanish, Farsi, Tagalog, Filipino, Thai, Japanese and Vietnamese.

Foothill provides child abuse prevention for children at risk of abuse and neglect. These services include play therapy as well as family therapy and case management and can be provided in the child’s home as well as at school. The overall goal is to preserve the family unit through family counseling and support, though if necessary Foothill can foster children in dire situations.
