Food Addiction Chemical Dependency Consultants Review
Food Addiction Chemical Dependency Consultants is an outpatient drug, alcohol and food addiction treatment program for both adults and adolescents. The concept was developed in 1991 by Drusilla Myers, a licensed addiction counselor. Myers, who specializes in food addiction counseling, has been working with clients who have food addiction since 1980. Chronic overeating, anorexia and bulimia are all addressed by Food Addiction Chemical Dependency Consultants. With a highly-trained staff and much hard work and effort, they now help thousands of clients to overcome their addictions and mental health disorders at three offices in southern Maine.
Treatment and Staff
Clients are matched with a counselor skilled to fit their specific needs after an extensive evaluation. An individualized treatment plan is devised as part of a team effort between the counselor and client. Dual diagnosis support is available.
Clients are treated with a combination of group and individual therapy; frequency and duration depends on the individual. The treatment approach combines CBT with 12-step principles. Clients are encouraged, but not required, to find peer support in a 12-step or other type of fellowship. In addition to a weekly process group, several different two-hour specialty groups are available at each location. Topics include women’s issues, men’s issues, early recovery challenges, adult children of alcoholics and co-dependency issues, and Suboxone tapering and support.
Adolescent clients receive extensive evaluations, using the JASAE (Juvenile automated substance abuse evaluation) method. Youth treatment includes addiction education and individual and family counseling.
Extras
Food Addiction Chemical Dependency Consultants offers a variety of additional services aside from addiction treatment. Family counseling is available to address problems between family members and strengthen the family bond. Also, community education workshops are provided on food addiction, alcoholism and drug addiction.
For those who have been arrested operating a vehicle under the influence, a six-week DEEP (Driver Education and Evaluation Program) group treatment program for adolescents and adults is available. The program meets on Saturday nights and includes psychological and substance abuse assessment, individual or group counseling and interactive educational groups.
Group therapy aftercare is available after completion of any of the the substance abuse or food addiction treatment programs.
