Located in Woodstock, Georgia, FOCUS Counseling and Training, Inc. provides outpatient services for adolescents and adults in need of mental health and substance abuse support. FCT focuses on treating clients through individual therapy sessions while also giving them access to non-intensive group therapy. Treatment at FCT is available for Bartow, Cherokee, Cobb, Floyd, Forsyth, Gordon, Gwinnett, Hall, Paulding, Pickens and Polk County residents.
Treatment and Staff
Prospective clients must first complete an evaluation from which an individualized treatment plan is developed that determines frequency of individual therapy. Each session is typically an hour long and can be scheduled on Mondays from 9 am to 7 pm, Tuesday through Thursday from 9 am to 8 pm, Fridays from 9 am to 5 pm and Saturdays depending on therapist availability. Medication management is not available on-site, but referrals are made as needed.
Substance abuse groups are available throughout the week. The adult co-ed substance abuse group takes place on Tuesdays from 6 to 7:30 pm. During groups, therapists provide psycho-education on the negative effects of drugs and alcohol, codependency, family dynamics, addiction and coping skills. Adults are also given help identifying triggers and developing relapse prevention plans. Younger clients go through the Seven Challenges program, which consists of substance abuse groups for 75 minutes beginning at 6:15 pm on Tuesdays and 7:15 pm on Wednesdays. Groups are discussion based and use Motivational Interviewing (MI) to help clients understand addiction, set goals for the future and inspire change. FCT staff consists of LCSWs and LPCs.
Extras
Gender-specific anger management groups are available for men on Tuesday evenings from 6 to 7:30 pm and for women on Thursdays from 6:30 to 8 pm. An additional service called Community Support Individual (CSI) is also available for youth and families to help clients with accessing more intensive behavioral health and substance abuse services in their communities.

Staff members apply evidence-based therapies to promote change in the minds of clients, contributing to lasting sobriety. Though it might not be ideal for those requiring an intensive recovery program, FOCUS is a great fit for individuals who prefer one-on-one attention and scheduling flexibility.
