Florida Sober House Review

Situated between Miami and Fort Lauderdale in the coastal city of Hollywood, Florida, Florida Sober House provides transitional living accommodations for men and women struggling with alcohol and substance use disorders as well as those with co-occurring disorders like depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder and trauma. In addition to safe, comfortable sober housing, the facility provides a six months of programming rooted in the 12-step recovery method. Unlike many sober living houses, Florida Sober House makes referrals to physicians, psychiatrists and nurse practitioners, so medication management is available for those in need of dual diagnosis support. The house is two miles from the beach, and is situated close to interstate 95, several Tri-rail stations, bus depots and dozens of area 12-step meetings.

Accommodations and Amenities

Situated just a couple of miles from the beach, clients of Florida Sober House enjoy the beauty and the breeze of the ocean. The facility is an upscale house with plenty of amenities. Bedrooms are double-occupancy and equipped with basic furnishings and plenty of sunlight. There are common rooms with comfortable couches and TV’s, as well as an outdoor patio with a barbeque grill. Clients also enjoy a media room where 12-step meetings take place as well as movie nights.

Rules and Regulations

The goal of the Florida Sober House is to be a haven for men and women in recovery while providing them with the tools to become free from addiction. Unlike many transitional living facilities, Florida Sober House offers a six month treatment program modeled around the 12-step recovery method. During the first phase of the program, residents must attend 30 12-step meetings in 30 days, be it on-site or local meetings, and go through the first three steps of either the AA or NA program. In addition, clients must work with a sponsor, get a job and pay rent. Throughout the second phase clients must finish the fourth, fifth and sixth step of the program and attend 60 meetings in 60 days. Residents in the third phase begin working on the final six steps of AA and continue attending at least one meeting a day. By graduation, clients must finish all 12 steps and pass a written exam on the history of AA. Upon completion, residents are welcome to stay in “graduation housing” and become an example for peers in early recovery.

Florida Sober House enforces a strict code of conduct that includes a zero tolerance policy for alcohol and substance use as well as threats, violence and disrespect. Weekly community house meeting are mandatory for residents and the facility performs regular and random inspections as well as drug and alcohol testing. In addition, residents must work and volunteer while in Florida Sober House.

Extras

Florida Sober House also offers “graduation housing” for individuals that have been sober for six months.
