First Step Recovery Center Review
Founded in Lincoln, Nebraska in 1991, First Step Recovery Center is an outpatient drug and alcohol treatment facility for adolescents and adults. This comprehensive behavioral health facility offers individualized treatment programs with group and individual therapy, psychiatric services and Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT). The credentialed staff utilize CBT-based therapy methods.
Treatment and Staff
Upon entering treatment, FSR requires all clients to complete an assessment including those who are court-ordered. Clients are then either enrolled in a standard outpatient track or the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for both adolescents and adults.
For adolescents who are exhibiting signs of possible substance abuse but not full-blown addiction, or for those who may be at risk for relapse, there are two levels of programming available. One requires a total of 10 hours of group therapy and is mainly education based while the other is a 12- to 16-week program that meets weekly for two hours in group sessions. This program emphasizes relapse prevention and coping skills. Even more intensive is a 22- to 26-week program which is broken into steps; the first step requires clients to attend group therapy four times a week for two hours at a time along with one individual session for the first six weeks. The second step is 16 weeks of group therapy that meets twice weekly for two hours.
The adult outpatient track also has different levels of care. The least intensive is a 15-hour group therapy program and the next is a standard outpatient track of weekly group therapy for three hours. The most intensive is a nine-hour per week IOP consisting of group and individual therapy once a week upon request. In addition to therapy, those who qualify for MAT can receive medication for opiates or alcohol.
Treatment methods at FSR include CBT, the Stages of Change model, biofeedback, EMDR and solution-oriented treatment. The facility’s staff includes dually-licensed psychologists, medical doctors, LPNs, Master’s-level LADCs and LMFTs.
Extras
In addition to the substance abuse treatment programs, FSR also offers groups for other addictions like gambling, overeating and excessive internet use. An aftercare program is available for all participants, though it attendance is not mandatory. This phase of treatment typically consists of one group session a week for two hours.
