Albuquerque New MexicoFirst Nations Community Healthsource Review

First Nations Community Healthsource was established in 1972 as a private nonprofit organization with the goal to provide health services to the Native American communities in New Mexico. With two locations in the city of Albuquerque, the substance abuse treatment program at First Nations is outpatient and combines the 12-steps and holistic approaches in its treatment. With programs tailored for the under-served Native American and Alaskan Native populations, First Nations meets the unique needs of this community with a special focus on providing resources that embrace their traditions and cultural values.

Treatment and Staff

Prior to beginning treatment, clients must first go through an initial evaluation and assessment to help the counselors better determine which treatment methods best suit their needs. From there an individualized treatment plan is formed that includes evidence based treatment using CBT-based methods. Treatment combines individual and group therapy, family therapy, alcohol/drug education classes and co-occurring disorders treatment. Additionally, all clients are required to attend at least two 12-step meetings per week with several hosted on-site throughout the week for clients to choose from.

Traditional native healing and medicines are available including mentoring, Native American Wellness Groups and traditional sweat lodge groups. Additionally, holistic methods are also offered such as acupuncture, massage and EMDR. Family therapy is also available and counselors also offer referrals for those who wish to continue with aftercare or seek more intensive residential treatment.

The staff at FNCH consists of LPCs, LMFTs, LMHCs and LPCCs.

Extras

In addition to the substance abuse treatment program, FNCH also offers a variety of mental and behavioral health and wellness services. Primary medical and dental care, behavioral health care, traditional healing care, alternative therapies, a youth mentoring program, a homeless outreach program, social services, an HIV/AIDS education program, a domestic violence and sexual abuse education and prevention program as well as a diabetes prevention programs are all available.

In Summary

The substance abuse treatment program at First Nations Community Healthsource is tailored primarily for the Native American community in the Albuquerque area. Those seeking outpatient treatment programs with a variety of traditional, alternative and culturally sensitive treatment modalities will find First Nations a good fit. The highly individualized program and credentialed staff allow for clients to receive the best possible treatment for their unique circumstances.
