Family Health Centers of Baltimore Review
As an expansive healthcare non-profit based in Baltimore, Maryland, Family Health Centers of Baltimore provides a range of behavioral health programs to local residents. While the original facility opened in 1978 in Cherry Hill, the organization now has additional locations in Brooklyn and downtown Baltimore. All behavioral health programs for addiction and mental illness are outpatient-based, with both standard and Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) available.
Treatment and Staff
After an initial assessment, clients at Family Health Centers of Baltimore work with staff to develop individualized treatment plans suited to their needs. Outpatient treatment is available in a variety of intensities including preventative and primary care, with support for co-occurring disorders and mental health counseling also available. Though each treatment plan may vary, programs include individual and group therapy with evidence-based practices including CBT. As to be expected, and per the individualized treatment concept, clients entering the IOP can expect more sessions per week but frequency and length of the program depend on each person’s needs and progress.
Because the program is more medical and psychiatry-oriented, 12-step participation is not required. Other services include case management and Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) including Suboxone. The staff at Family Health Centers of Baltimore consists of psychiatrists, MDs and CACs.
Extras
Aside from the aforementioned programs, Family Health Centers of Baltimore provides on-site HIV/AIDS prevention and job readiness classes as well as family education services. Treatment for those with DWIs is also available.
In addition to treatment for addiction, the majority of the services at the facility consist of affordable adult medicine such as treatment for common issues like asthma and diabetes. Other services include pap smears, physicals and smoking cessation programs. The organization can also provide vaccinations for children, reproductive health services, dentistry and podiatry services. There’s also an on-site pharmacy available for those in need of medication.
In Summary
Overall, Family Health Centers of Baltimore is a well-rounded, community-oriented facility with a number of flexible programs available for clients suffering from addiction. Care is medically-oriented and includes support for co-occurring disorders, with additional healthcare services offered as well. While those in need of a more intensive program may need to look elsewhere, Family Health Centers of Baltimore is still worth considering for those in the area.
