Family Health Center Review
With two locations in Hyattsville and Gaithersburg, Family Health Center is an Maryland-based outpatient drug and alcohol treatment facility that has provided services to its community for over 10 years. All programs are individualized to fit each client’s unique needs and schedules and offer psychiatric support for those with co-occurring disorders. Both court-ordered and self-referred clients are welcome to enroll in treatment.
Treatment and Staff
Upon intake, clients undergo an initial 45-minute assessment that is either scheduled or on a walk-in basis. While each program varies, treatment generally includes individual and group therapy rooted in evidence-based practices such as CBT and brief strategic family therapy. Groups cover a range of topics including education about addiction, anger management, domestic violence and self-esteem. Though 12-step involvement is not a requirement, clients are encouraged to attend off-site meetings as they wish.
Staff consists of PhDs, LCPCs, CASs, CACs, psychologists and psychiatrists.
Extras
Family Health Center also offers DUI classes in multiple intensity levels including three-hour, 12-hour and 26-week programs depending on the severity of the charges. A less intensive Driver Improvement course is available as a precautionary measure. Other services include a program specifically for domestic violence issues, as well as treatment for anger and stress management. Couples, family and marital therapy are available as standalone services. Finally, the facility offers bilingual services for Spanish speakers.
In Summary
In all, Family Health Center provides flexible outpatient treatment with significant psychiatric support to drug offenders and others seeking recovery. Aside from drug and alcohol abuse treatment, clients can take advantage of a range of family-oriented therapy and other services. While those in need of a more intensive program may not find what they are looking for here, Family Health Center remains a strong resource for outpatient care in the suburban DC area.
