Family Dynamics Counseling Review
Located in the southwestern Wyoming town of Rock Springs, Family Dynamics Counseling has provided services for mental health and substance abuse since 1993. Treatment is offered to adults and adolescents on an outpatient basis. Services include assessments, individual, group and family therapy. Using evidence-based practices, Family Dynamics Counseling assists clients with addressing chemical dependency and addiction, among many other issues.
Treatment and Staff
Prior to beginning treatment, each client must undergo an initial evaluation. In addition to treatment for substance abuse, support for co-occurring disorders is offered. Detox and residential treatment are not available.
Individual sessions are usually 60 minutes, creating space for privacy and one-on-one attention. With the help of their therapist, clients identify the underlying causes behind their specific issues. Topics such as coping skills and relapse prevention are covered, as well as mental health if applicable. Through the use of CBT and DBT, clients are encouraged to challenge their negative thoughts. The frequency of individual therapy depends on the individual. Typically, clients receive care once a week. In addition to individual sessions, clients can come in for family and/or couples therapy.
The 15-week group therapy program meets once a week for an hour and half. Topics may include relapse prevention, life skills, coping mechanisms and processing. This is usually done on its own, but may also include individual therapy when needed.
The staff consists of Master’s-level therapists, counselors and an intern. Group sizes range from five to 12 clients at a time.
Extras
The facility is state certified to do substance abuse assessments and offers an eight-hour education class once a month for DUI clients. In addition to treating substance abuse, clients can receive specialized therapy for depression, trauma and anxiety. Children’s therapy is also offered.
