Family and Youth Alternatives Review
Family and Youth Alternatives (FYA) is a branch of Mental Health Systems, a non-profit organization providing mental health services and substance abuse treatment programs from over 80 locations in the state of California. Located in Fresno, California, Family and Youth Alternatives offers juvenile drug court post-release outpatient services and generalized outpatient programming for substance abuse.
Treatment and Staff
FYA offers three substance abuse treatment programs with varying intensities. The first is juvenile drug court, which gives adolescents the opportunity to have their sentences dropped if they complete the program. The program is a year long and consists of 90-minute group sessions twice a week and a weekly hour-long adolescent support group. The second program option is a Post-Release Outpatient Services program (PROPS) for adolescents recently released from custody. This aftercare program lasts for six months. Treatment consists of three 90-minute group sessions per week and if completed and clients have met the conditions set by the court, they are released from probation.
The final program is a voluntary outpatient drug-free program. The program typically lasts four to six months and consists of addiction education and group sessions. The group sessions are scheduled twice a week and are 90 minutes long. All programs administer random drug testing throughout the course of treatment.
Family support groups are also available for enrollment for all clients. The 12 steps are encouraged, but not integrated into treatment. Family and Youth Alternatives does not treat dual diagnosis, but many of Mental Health Systems’ other facilities do.
The staff at FYA consists of LPCs, LADCs, LPNs and CSWs.
Extras
In addition to Family and Youth Alternatives, Mental Health Systems offers a wide range of other substance abuse and behavioral health treatment programs. Other services include general mental health counseling, corrections, family programs, residential treatment and detox.
