ExtraCare Health Services Review
Founded in 1991 by New Jersey addiction specialist John Kelly, ExtraCare Health Services is an outpatient substance abuse program that specializes in creating individualized treatment plans for their clients. John Kelly, who is a a National Board Certified Addiction Specialist, Board Certified Social Worker and Certified Forensic Examiner literally written the book on addiction. He is a regular featured guest on numerous TV shows, radio shows and at academic conferences regarding the science of addiction. As the director of ExtraCare, Mr. Kelly aims to help his community with two locations that serve Middlesex, Monmouth, and Union Counties.
Treatment and Staff
Although the program at ExtraCare is exclusively outpatient, the individualized treatment plans tailored for each client lead to high success rates of recovery. Treatment begins with an initial assessment to determine the course of treatment and which counselor on the ExtraCare staff would be the best fit. Referrals are offered for those who require inpatient treatment, dual diagnosis support or detox.
After the assessment, the client will receive receive their treatment plan, which usually includes individual therapy sessions with their counselor at least once a week. Family therapy is recommended when applicable, focusing on rebuilding a healthy, functioning family system. Clients also partake in group therapy, which includes relapse prevention counseling, and discussion of coping skills. Modes of treatment applied during both group and individual sessions include CBT, DBT, EMDR (for trauma) and Psychodynamic Processing. The length of treatment depends on the individual.
The staff at ExtraCare consists of a licensed clinical psychologist, licensed Master’s-level social workers, LDACs, consulting psychiatrists, a pastoral counselor, and CSACs.
Extras
Although ExtraCare does not have much to offer in the way of recreational activities or amenities, they do provide additional services beyond substance abuse treatment. These include counseling services for anxiety, codependency, PTSD, depression and anger management.
ExtraCare also does regular drug screening and urine testing for clients as a measure of compliance.
In Summary
ExtraCare Health Services does not place an emphasis on luxury or amenities. Instead, they focus on the care and recovery of the client. John Kelly’s expertise in addiction and treating addiction has helped to build an extremely successful outpatient program. A professional and experienced staff provide affordable, individualized treatment and provide a variety of counseling options streamlined at building self-esteem.
