Treatment and Staff
Before beginning treatment, students go through an extensive intake evaluation that includes a medical and psychological exam as well as an account of substance use and a complete family history. From there, an individualized treatment plan is tailored to address the unique needs, goals and circumstances of the person. Students are assigned to specific treatment tracks like eating disorders, substance use disorders and surface addictions like gambling and technology.
The facility utilizes an integrative care approach that includes therapy, holistic models and experiential activities, academics and recreation. Students engage in two weekly individual therapy sessions and daily group therapy sessions rooted in gender-specific methods and the milieu-based model that emphasizes communal learning and accountability. Residents work with mentors and teachers on a range of relevant issues such as addiction, trauma, stress and anger management, communication, general wellness, self-esteem and relapse prevention.
The multidisciplinary team at Eva Carlston includes social workers, teachers, therapists, mental health counselors, parent coaches and nutritionists. Medication management is available for students with mental health conditions.

As such, physical fitness is an integral component of the curriculum with a number of options including swimming, dancing and running.
