Ethos Foundation Review
Ethos Foundation is a counseling organization that offers flexible substance abuse treatment plans, including a 16 week Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). Located in Alexandria, Virginia, Ethos Foundation was founded by Philip Brennan, PhD, who has over 30 years of experience in substance abuse counseling.
Treatment and Staff
After an assessment, Dr. Brennan works with clients to create a customized treatment plan that includes group therapy up to three times a week and individual therapy as needed. Therapy groups include topics such as the effects of addiction, relapse prevention and coping skills. Clinicians at Ethos Foundation encourage peer interaction and use a variety of interactive techniques such as Motivational Interviewing (MI). Groups usually number between five and 15 participants. Clinicians at Ethos Foundation include psychologists, licensed therapists (including CSWs) and addiction counselors such as Certified Addictions Counselors (CACs).
As clients progress through the IOP they work with their primary counselor to decide their discharge date and an aftercare program which may include continuing with weekly group therapy. While there is no requirement to attend 12-step meetings while enrolled in the IOP, clients are strongly encouraged to find support groups on their own and are furnished with a list of nearby meetings.
Extras
Ethos Foundation’s clinicians have worked extensively with clients in the criminal justice system. Some have held positions in corrections as well, giving them the unique ability to both know how to help clients navigate its complexities and a sensitivity to the needs of those whose treatment is court-ordered.
In Summary
Ethos Foundation works to ensure that clients actively partner in their recovery by involving them in the creation of their treatment plan and fostering an interactive environment in group therapy. Founder and Dr. Philip Brennan is committed to helping clients meet their treatment needs and help to create a recovery plan that meets their schedule and budget.
